Jan King

I am a charity manager with experience in setting up charities, developing strategies and plans, and troubleshooting or providing interim solutions. I have worked across several sectors but with deeper experience in mental health, community development, substance misuse and homelessness. I often work with organisations to develop their strengths through designing new services and projects. I have worked on mergers and collaborations, working with board members, staff and service users. I bring HR qualifications and experience which I combine with pragmatic operational knowhow.

I like doing turnaround work, helping organisations and people find new routes when they are stuck or facing difficulties. I also enjoy helping to create spaces for new solutions through collaborations or facilitation.

Key Projects:

Collaboration to tackle rough sleeping, two charities working to address homelessness

A sensitive project where relationships had broken down between the two bodies. I worked with the CEO’s and senior teams to develop stronger working relationships. This included co-production, mediation and coaching.

Lived Experience Unit, large mental health charity

I led the development of a new team focussing on bringing lived experience to the organisation. This involved developing strategy, wide consultation across the organisation, promotion of services, and leadership development.

Setting up a new charity, large youth charity seeding a smaller charity

I worked with the team of the newly forming charity and the larger charity to work out the detail of separation including TUPE details, funding requirements, charity registration and governance arrangements.
