Jo Simpson

Senior Fund Development Manager

“I moved into the charity sector from my role at Lloyd’s as I realised that I found working with our charity partners more fulfilling and inspiring. I enjoy using my expertise to make a difference and particularly enjoy working with frontline charities to try to make a long lasting change for vulnerable people.”

About Me

I have over 20 years’ experience of working in the charity sector and have been with Eastside People for over 12 years – both as an employee and consultant.

Initially I began my working life as secondary school teacher, moving to the commercial sector and then the charity sector. I worked in corporate social responsibility at Lloyd’s of London before roles at Notting Hill Housing and Shelter. At Notting Hill Housing I managed our volunteers programme which included corporate volunteering for organisations such as Goldman Sachs, BBC and Disney, and managing the volunteers for Notting Hill Housing’s pioneering charity shops. At Shelter I was responsible for a new programme aimed at increasing access to quality housing advice for London’s minority ethnic communities.

I enjoy the work at Eastside People as we get to understand such an inspiring and diverse range of social sector organisations. I am responsible for our work on social investment and partnerships with external Funds to support and develop the capacity of the sector.

I have a PGCE and a degree in Middle Eastern Studies (and Comparative Religion) from Manchester University. I am married with one son. I enjoy running, swimming, snowboarding and live music. I am also involved with a charity to help young people from deprived areas to get training and employment opportunities in media and digital.
